Genesis 15:18-21 (NIV)

On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, “To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates—the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.

Hello Family,

In Bible Study last week it was asked if the Israel settled back in the original Promised Land, geographically speaking. Well, the answer to that questions is yes and no. The original lands that were granted to Israel through God’s covenant with Abraham are different than the lands currently held by the State of Israel. The maps below show an overlay representation of the Promised Last as decreed in Genesis 15:18-21 and the State of Israel today. The State of Israel is represented on both maps as a dotted line.

As you can see on the maps, portions of the Promised Land are under the rule of other nations: Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Palestine. On the Modern Israel map, the lands labeled West Bank and Gaza are currently are claimed by the State of Palestine.

As many of you know, there have been on-going disputes and wars fought over the possession of the lands in-and-around Israel; there are varying views on the subject. However, as Christians our focus should be on the spiritual restoration of Israel (Romans 11:26) and God’s lasting promise to His chosen people. “The Christian plea in the Middle East to Palestinians and Jews is: ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved'” (Acts 16:31).1
